KATHLEEN'S CORNER

April 2017

Hope you have taken advantage of the multitude of St. Patrick's Day festivities made available to us this month and have sufficiently recovered in order to take part in the rest of the schedule.

Of course, to kick off the month we marched in the Winter Park St. Patrick's Day Parade. With our pipe band leading us down to the grandstand, you could almost imagine we were strutting down Fifth Avenue in NYC. The entertainment in the park afterwards with Mike Daly and all the Irish Schools of dance represented on stage was brilliant and so enjoyed by the crowds on the lawn in front of the stage. Then (for a lot of us) it was on to Fiddler's Green for a little libation and a bit of grub and some more Irish entertainment . What a grand day!!

The next week held the Irish American Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner-Dance. Thanks to Christine Arimento for all her hard work in chairing this affair. With Annette Doyle at the keyboards, a grand time was had by all with lots of singing and dancing, and more eating and drinking, too. Thanks to all the leprechauns who donated door prizes , helped in the kitchen, sold tickets and served the food – we couldn't have done it without everyone's help. And we can't forget little Katie Stewart, who did such a great job selling the water and soda.

During the week, John McMahon brought in the Dublin City Ramblers who played at the Senior Center in St. Cloud. What a great show they put on!!! It was great seeing Sean and the boys again..

And it wasn't even St. Patrick's Day yet!!! There certainly was a great wealth of choices for passing the day. There was plenty of craic to be had at Fiddler's or Liam Fitzpatrick's or the Harp and Celt in downtown. I personally missed the Claddagh Cottage with its traditional musicians on stage, but they promise the Cottage will be back in business soon and we'll let you know as soon as that happens. Even after Friday was over, there was still entertainment at the "newbie," the Crooked Can Brewery in Winter Garden, who hosted a three day mini-festival with quite a few Irish bands and step dancers and featuring the headliners -- Off Kilter who played to a packed house on Saturday evening. We'll have to make sure they let us know what next year will bring.

So now it's on to the auction in April and the May meeting which is the THIRD SUNDAY in May so all the Mothers get to be pampered on the second Sunday which is Mother's Day. (Remember that guys!) And then It's the beach weekend on June 12, 13, 14 and that's all she wrote. So make sure you bring all your treasures to the meeting on April 9 and join the bidding wars.

Slan lait.
Kathleen
